25 Periyar Quotes in Hindi and English:  रामास्वामी नायकर पेरियार (जन्म- 17 सितंबर, 1879, इरोड, तमिलनाडु; मृत्यु- 1973) द्रविड़ आंदोलन के प्रमुख नेता थे और ब्राह्मण होते हुए भी हिंदुत्व विरोधी थे। दलित और पिछड़े वर्गों की इस दशा के लिए ब्राह्मण प्रधान और मनुस्मृति पर आधारित हिंदू धर्म की संस्कृति को जिम्मेदार माना। इन विचारों को लेकर उनको विशेषकर उत्तर भारत में विरोध का सामना करना पड़ा था।

हिंदुत्व विरोधी और द्रविड़ आंदोलन के प्रमुख नेता ई.वी. रामास्वामी नायकर का जन्म 17 सितंबर 1879 को तमिलनाडु के इरोड नामक शहर में एक ब्राह्मण परिवार में हुआ था। वे बचपन से ही विद्रोही प्रवृत्ति के थे। जब अध्यापकों ने उन्हें स्कूल में पढ़ने के अयोग्य घोषित कर दिया तो पिता ने उन्हें व्यवसाय में लगा दिया। सार्वजनिक जीवन के आरंभ में रामास्वामी राजगोपालाचारी की प्रेरणा से कांग्रेस में सम्मिलित हुए। 1920 के असहयोग आंदोलन में वे जेल भी गए। परंतु अपने विचारों की उपेक्षा देखकर उन्होंने कांग्रेस छोड़ दी और ‘आत्म सम्मान’ नामक संगठन बनाया। रूस की यात्रा से वे इस नतीजे पर पहुंचे कि धार्मिकता से नहीं भौतिक समृद्धि से ही पिछ्ड़ों की स्थिति सुधर सकती है।

उनके मन में दलित और पिछड़े वर्गों की दशा के प्रति बेहद लगाव था और इस दशा को दूर करने के लिए संघर्ष किया। रामास्वामी नायकर उत्तर भारत भी आए और हिंदू धर्म ग्रंथों का आलोचनात्मक अध्ययन करने पर उन्होंने निष्कर्ष निकाला कि दलित और पिछड़े वर्गों की दशा के लिए ब्राह्मण प्रधान और मनुस्मृति पर आधारित हिंदू धर्म की व्यवस्था जिम्मेदार है। वे हिंदू लोकाचार विरोधी और हिंदी विरोधी हो गए। हिंदी विरोध के कारण राजा जी की सरकार ने भी उन्हें जेल में डाला था। संविधान और राष्ट्रीय ध्वज का अपमान, मूर्ति पूजा का उपहास, विनायक, राम आदि की मूर्तियां तोड़ना तथा एक पुस्तक लिखकर राम, सीता, लक्ष्मण आदि के संबंध में अशोभनीय टिप्पणी करने जैसे अनेक कार्य किए।
